Midland Planned Parenthood Location Remains Closed Despite Ruling 10/31/13
CBS 7 News
The Midland Planned Parenthood location will stay closed despite Monday’s ruling by a federal judge that struck down key provisions of Texas’ new abortion law.
State Bill 2 passed in July but according to the Odessa American the location remains closed because of 2011 law that excluded Planned Parenthood from the Texas’ Medicaid Women’s Health Program. When funding for family planning services was slashed many clinics associated with Planned Parenthood, including the one in Midland, were forced to close.
State Bill 2 was supposed to go into effect on Tuesday but U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel blocked the law’s admitting privileges requirement.
West Texas women who want to have an abortion will still have to travel to Lubbock.
