ODESSA, TX-Pharmacists at Medical Center Hospital want to remind the community about the importance of properly disposing of unwanted or expired medication.
By doing so, medication is kept out of the wrong hands, and does not pollute the ground water.
One pharmacist said people tend to think it's ok to flush their unused medications down the toilet, or end up tossing them into the trash can, but he wants everyone to know that these methods are not safe for you and the environment.
"Our goal is to make sure that the medications get handled in the most appropriate manner, whether its in the hospital or whether its in the community, and so we would encourage them to contact us if they have any questions," said Jason Nickisch, Assistant Director of Pharmacy at Medical Center Hospital.
Medical Center has a "take back" program that they do every second Wednesday of the month. The hospital then disposes of these medications in the appropriate manner.
