Midland, TX-The Midland Police Department has been cracking down on traffic violations all around the area and keeping a close eye on speeders.
With car accidents on the rise, they hope that writing more tickets for speeding will help reduce the number of accidents in Midland.
Just this year alone, 560 citations have been issued on Loop 250 for speeding. Many residents we spoke with today say they're tired of seeing accidents happen on a daily basis, and say drivers are to blame.
Loop 250 has seen more drivers commute on it than ever imagined due to the booming population, and with that there has been a dramatic rise in car crashes.
Jason Fuller, who drives the loop daily, said he recently got into a crash on the loop.
"I actually have been in a car accident, I got side swiped. It's from people not knowing how to enter or exit on," said Fuller.
William Mapp said he hopes that police officers continue to be on the watch.
"I work in the oilfield, I'm a surveyor, so I spend a lot of time in my truck, and I see accidents every single day, and a lot of it is from people not paying attention or speeding," said Mapp.
Midland Police Officials said driver behavior has increasingly become a major factor in car crashes around the area, and it is why they decided to really crack down on drivers.
"I think that the roads in general around here are unsafe, because people are on their phones a lot, they're following too closely, they donít pay attention," said Amy Sitzman, a Midland Resident.
Some residents said they would like to see the loop expanded, but said the number of car crashes won't go down until drivers decide to pay better attention to the road.
