Pecos, TX - The city of Pecos continues to struggle with a housing crisis.
“We’re real busy over here,” said Max Garza who looked for a home for months before one became available.
There could be a solution. Companies are now proposing storage pods for homes.
Similar to areas in Big Spring, these pods are a less expensive way of living but planners with The City of Pecos say long term these storage rooms will not last and they're not pleasing to the eye.
“Bringing down storage pods like that, I don't know how it will look in the community,” said Garza.
Although some residents say, in a housing shortage, beggars cannot be choosers.
“It’s good for the people who need a home,” said Pecos Resident Veronica Rodriguez.
The companies came before the council and asked to change the ordinance and consider the pods as homes, but Pecos Mayor Venetta Seals says they were not pleased with the idea because these are not homes for potential families.
“Try to think about the value of these storage containers 15 years from now,” Seals said.
The City Council members say they may discuss this at their next meeting November 14.
