Renovated Granbury Opera House to Reopen 10/25/13
GRANBURY, Texas - The 127-year-old Granbury Opera House is set to reopen in December after undergoing a makeover for the last two years.
Many of the improvements to the opera house built in 1886 in the town about 40 miles southwest of Fort Worth will be backstage, where rehearsal spaces, dressing rooms, and places to build and store sets are being added.
The opera house will retain its rustic feel, with its exposed limestone walls and pressed-tin ceiling. Renovations were needed to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act and to add more restrooms.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that after closing in 1911 and remaining dark for 64 years, the opera house came back to life in 1975.
