The Andrews County jail could soon see some upgrades. Pending the county’s approval, Sheriff Sam Jones says the Texas Jail Commission will come in to assess the jail.
Jones says it was built in 1956 and has had a number of maintenance issues and just needs some upgrades. The assessment could recommend building a new jail.
Jones said they are also feeling the pinch of a lack of jail space.
“At times, we have more inmates than bed space,” Jones said. “It’s something all over the Basin because of the boom.”
