AP Interview: Patterson Wants 4 States Out of US 10/11/13
AUSTIN, Texas - He's famous for never leaving home without a .22-caliber Magnum tucked in his boot.
But if things ever really got dicey, Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson says his first move would actually be for the .380 he keeps in his waistband.
In an interview with The Associated Press, the lieutenant governor hopeful showed off his pistols.
Patterson authored Texas' famous concealed handgun law while in the state Senate in 1995.
Now, he's hoping his penchant for packing heat can set him apart in the crowded field seeking the GOP lieutenant governor nomination.
Patterson said he's the only one running who can protect Texas' traditional conservative values.
He even suggested that rather than Texas seceding, America would be better off if California, New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut were booted from the union.
