Cards Entertain Pirates 10/9/13
ST. LOUIS - The fifth and final game of the National League divisional playoff between the Cardinals and Pirates is being played this evening in St. Louis. The best-of-five series is tied at 2-2 after the Cards evened things up with a 2-1 win on Monday. The pitching matchup this evening has game 1 winner Adam Wainwright on the mound for St. Louis against game 2 winner Gerrit Cole for the Pirates.
The winner of tonight's game advances to the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who eliminated the Atlanta Braves in four games.
As far as play in the American League divisional playoffs is concerned, there is one game to go. The Tigers evened things up in their best-of-five series with the Athletics on Tuesday with an 8-6 win. The fifth and final game will be played tomorrow night in Oakland with Justin Verlander pitching for the Tigers against Bartolo Colon (bar-TOH'-loh koh-LOHN').
The winner advances to the ALCS against the Red Sox, who eliminated the Rays last night.
