Construction on the Interstate-20 corridor between F.M. 1788 and the Ector County line has not yet begun but, workers are already setting out barricades along the highway in preparation for the overhaul.
According to TXDOT, 5.4 miles of I-20 will be resurfaced starting today. The bad news? Construction may last into December.
Only one lane will be affected at a time however, drivers we spoke with worry it will still be an inconvenience.
"It's real congested, it's a long delay," says Michael Breazell who commutes via I-20 every day.
"It means I have to wake up super early so I can avoid all of it," says commuter David Roller.
So why is it necessary?
TXDOT officials say stress and cracking of the roads pushed this stretch of road high up on their list of priorities.
TXDOT officials would like to remind drivers that it is illegal to cross the medians and you could get ticketed for doing so. They also ask that drivers be patient and find alternative routes if necessary.
