October 2nd, 2013
In day two of the Shale Show a lot of focus was on what the a cline shale boom would look like and whether or not it will happen. CBS 7 set out to see if the Cline Shale boom will be a reality or myth.
Experts say the Cline Shale boom is no longer a matter of if, but a matter of when.
The cline shale is not a myth. Itís going to happen itís just an extension of the Permian Basin," said Greg Wortham of the Cline Shale Alliance.
Wortham, who is also the mayor of Sweetwater, says the boom will come in 2014. However, oil companies have known about the Cline Shale Play for years and drilling still hasnít taken off.
One analyst CBS7 talked to says the oil and the technology is there but heavy drilling wonít take off as quick as others think. One company heís familiar with has been drilling for years and their wells just started yielding results.
"Itís going to take some time because Laredo Petroleum has been doing this for five years. Itís taken them five years to crack this shale code," said Matt Zimmerman of the Cline Shale Site.
So what would stop the frac hoses and oil trucks moving into town?
"A significant dip in oil prices,Ē said Jonathan Grammer of Grammer Land & Exploration Corp. ďand those can never be anticipated with a great deal of certainty."
