Feds in NY Shut Down Underground Drugs Website 10/2/13
NEW YORK - Federal authorities say they've shut down an underground website that was dealing cocaine and other illegal drugs.
In court papers made public Wednesday, prosecutors described the Silk Road site as "a sprawling black-market bazaar." They say it operated on a part of the Internet designed to hide the identities of computers hosting and accessing the network.
The court papers said the site had nearly 13,000 listings with categories like "Psychedelics" and "Stimulants." It also offered other goods like fake IDs and services for computer hackers. The papers said undercover investigators in New York bought cocaine, heroin, LSD and other drugs from the site.
A man identified as the operator of the Silk Road was arrested on Tuesday in San Francisco.
