West Texas VA To Remain Open 10/2/13

The West Texas VA will not be closed as a result of the federal government shut down. VA officials tell CBS 7 that their funding comes every two years and funding for the West Texas VA passed in 2012. However some programs such as compensation for health care and pensions could at risk according to their statement.
"VA has funds available to ensure claims processing and payments in the compensation, pension, education, and vocational rehabilitation programs will continue through late October. However, in the event of a prolonged shutdown, claims processing and payments in these programs will be suspended when funds are exhausted."
