Champs Open in Style...Leafs Stun Habs in Montreal 10/2/13
UNDATED - The Chicago Blackhawks raised their Stanley Cup banner before the game. Then they showed the Washington Capitals why Blackhawks have captured two of the last four NHL titles.
Brandon Saad, Johnny Oduya (oh-DOO'-yuh) and Marian Hossa (HOH'-sah) scored in the third period, and the Blackhawks kicked off their Stanley Cup title defense with a 6-4 victory over the Caps. Mikhail Grabovsky and the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night.
Patrick Kane, Brent Seabrook and Brandon Bollig also scored for Chicago. Corey Crawford made 28 saves, including a couple of huge stops when the Blackhawks killed off a late 5-on-3 power play.
Mikhail Grabovsky had three goals and an assist in his first game since he signed with Washington in August.
In other NHL openers:
- Tyler Bozak scored a short-handed goal and Mason Raymond netted the winner in his first game with the Maple Leafs as Toronto spoiled the Montreal Canadiens' home opener, 4-3. Canadiens enforcer George Parros sustained a concussion early in the third period in a fight with Leafs forward Colton Orr.
- Winnipeg rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to beat Edmonton 5-4 in the final opener of the night. Michael Frolic scored twice, including the game-winner with 5:02 left.
