ODESSA, TX-An ongoing mice problem at a Dollar Tree store in Odessa leaves customers outraged.
Many customers have been complaining for almost a year now about the tremendous amount of mice droppings and urine found throughout the building.
Earlier today Brandy Gentry and her sister walked into the Dollar Tree store off of 8th and Mapple in Odessa.
While walking down an aisle they heard squeaking coming from one of the shelves.
"My sister found a nest of baby mice by the bowl appetitís, and when the manager noticed her taking pictures they asked her to leave the store," said Gentry.
Gentry says this hasn't been the first time they've encountered mice at the store.
In fact back in August it took over 40 calls to get a hold of the district manager who said he would take care of the problem.
"They donít want the health department to know," said Gentry.
Gino Solla, the Director for Ector County Health Department, says an inspector checked out the store yesterday.
"He didnít find any sign of live rodents, but he did find rodent droppings throughout some shelving and some areas of the store," said Solla.
A year ago an inspector was actually sent out to that exact store for the same complaint, but Gino confirmed a follow up hadn't been done.
"You know as busy as we are with the inspectors, and influx of people in the area, Iíll be quite honest with you, it would be very easy for us to forget a recheck," said Solla.
A pest control company has been called out twice already by the store and is expected to go out a third time, according to Solla.
Many upset customers are worried about the number of diseases that can be caught from mice droppings.
Ector County Health officials tell us the store has 10-days to fix the problem. If there still seems to be an excessive amount of droppings and urine, Solla will then make the decision whether or not to shut down the store.
