Fort Stockton is Ready for the Oil Boom 9/30/13
CBS 7 News
Fort Stockton is one of the few cities not seeing the effects from the oil boom, but that may not be the case for long. City officials say little changes are tipping them off that oil companies are headed their way.
“We’re thinking right around the start of the new year, people will start moving in,” says Doug May, Fort Stockton Chamber Executive Director. He says there are little tips that show the companies are coming. Oil companies have bought permits and leased land they want to drill on. “We’re always excited for the potential for more growth, we just want to be ready for it."
May says the city is also working on renovating parts of the railroads as well as work on the efficiency of the trains. He says that at least infrastructure is already in place for most of the city because of the natural gas boom. Even in places that might look like this.
On top of preparing infrastructure to areas in the city, May says they've contracted a city and county garbage pickup to better suit new residents and commercial industry coming in.
