There was an accident at Midland Drive and Illinois Avenue overnight according to the Midland police. The major accident caused the city to switch from street lights to stop signs in all four directions at the intersection.
Police say they don't know when the lights will be fixed since the accident wiped out the control box.
The intersection is normally very busy and congested to begin with. With these lights out, the four way stop will be an even bigger point of congestion. Police ask drivers to try to avoid the intersection until the lights are fixed.
The accident last night was between two cars sending one careening into the utility box at the corner of Cedo's Stop sending wires everywhere. The driver was pulled out of the vehicle with the "jaws of life" and transported to the Midland Memorial Hospital.
Midland Police say the last update they received on the drivers condition was life threatening at 3AM. They say they believe alcohol was a factor in the accident but the investigation is ongoing.
