Yet another overpass that spans Interstate 20 was damaged by a commercial vehicle. In fact the same vehicle hit four overpasses. Gene Powell with TXDOT says while the damage to the West Loop 338 overpasses is relatively minor the Crane Avenue overpass is severely damaged. Powell said it could take over a year to make those repairs. He said they are forming a committee to address this ongoing issue.
An agreement for Odessa to buy water from Fort Stockton has yet to be reached and it was all the buzz today on Newstalk. City officials from both Odessa and Fort Stockton met last night n a public discussion to talk about a proposed contract. Odessa city officials say if they are going to build the infrastructure to get the water such as piping, they want to ensure they can get 50 million galas a day for many years to come. Fort Stockton city officials say the project could ensure water for generations of Odessans.
We sat down with an expert to talk about the proposed tobacco tax that would help fund early childhood education. The proposal in President Obama’s fiscal year 2014 budget calls for expanding federal funding for early childhood education paid for with a 94-cent increase in the federal tax on cigarettes and similar tax increases on other tobacco products. They said this proposal would provide more than 300 hundred thousand children to preschool programs and prevent more than 1.7 million kids alive today from becoming smokers.
