Houston Mom Charged for Not Treating Ill Daughter 9/22/13

HOUSTON (AP) - A Houston mother has been arrested after she failed to seek medical treatment for her 14-year-old daughter who was ill with lupus.
The Houston Chronicle reports 46-year-old Tina Renae Carr was arrested Friday in connection with the April incident.
At that time, rescue workers forced their way into the apartment after the mother barricaded the door with a refrigerator and refused to open it to police and paramedics. They found the teenager suffering from malnutrition and dizziness, and believed her body was covered with cigarette burns.
The teen was treated at a Houston hospital and diagnosed with lupus cerebritis, a brain inflammation associated with an auto-immune disorder.
Weeks earlier a doctor advised Carr to take the girl to the hospital but she refused.
