Local Facebook Group is Helping Odessa Animal Control Shelter 9/20/13
"Speaking Up For Those Who Can't" Facebook group has been working on ways to help the Odessa Animal Control shelter.
Facebook group founder and animal advocate, Cheryl Trotter, says she's working on a three-step plan.
First, she wants the public to understand that Odessans must spay and neuter their animals. If the community does that, she says the number of animals in the shelter would reduce dramatically.
Second, Trotter says “Speaking Up For Those Who Can’t” Facebook group has raised money for enough beds for each kennel in the shelter. They also plan to buy sanitizing stations for outside of each kennel so members of the public who come to see an animal, can make sure they’re not spreading bacteria or infections from dog to dog or cat to cat.
Third, for rescues coming to the shelter to rescue animals, it is mandatory that the rescue fills out paperwork for Odessa Animal Control. The rescue has to sign a contract and hand over the proper papers in order for OAC to legitimize the organization and make sure the animals are going to a safe place.
