Sheriff Gary Painter Says State Legislature Needs To Act On Synthetic Drugs 9/17/13

The Midland County Sheriff's office says they need to see more action from the state legislature regarding synthetic drugs. Sheriff Gary Painter says he is concerned that smoke shops will move into Midland County, now that Odessa has banned them.
CBS 7 recently reported that Texas countiesís hands are basically tied, as the state constitution doesn't allow them to create their own ordinances.
Sheriff Painter says he would like to see the legislature come up with a way to ban all synthetic drugs.
"That's dangerous. We need to stop it. And I'm having trouble with the legislature not addressing that and being able to provide protection for all the citizens," he said.
City of Midland officials also tell CBS 7 there are no plans at this point to create a synthetic drug ordinance.
