Mistrial for South Texas Man Charged in Slaying 9/11/13
BROWNSVILLE, Texas - A mistrial has been declared in the trial of a
66-year-old South Texas man charged in the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old woman
he once dated.
No retrial date was immediately set Tuesday for Aroldo Humberto Cadriel of
Brownsville, who's charged with murder.
The body of Brisna Mireles was found in March 2012 in a field near Combes.
An affidavit says police believe Cadriel had a long-term relationship with
Mireles and became upset after seeing her with another man.
Visiting Judge Marisela Saldana and attorneys for both sides declined to say
publicly what information led to the mistrial after the jury was seated.
Cadriel remains in custody on bonds topping $1 million. He's also charged
with sexually assaulting a 7-year-old boy in an unrelated case.
