SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The owner of 15 horses seized from a San Antonio property has been arrested on animal cruelty charges.
The San Antonio Express-News reports 38-year-old Guadalupe Sanchez was arrested Thursday. The horses were seized on Sunday. Sanchez had been keeping the horses on a friend's property.
Officials who visited the property said there was little to no water for the horses and no food. Police said the horses had numerous wounds on their heads, legs, sides and rears. One horse was dead.
The charge against Sanchez, cruelty to livestock animals, is a misdemeanor. His bond was set at $3,000, and he's under a federal immigration hold.
According to an affidavit, Sanchez told authorities the horses were in that condition when he bought them. He produced no evidence supporting the claim.
