Dallas DA Investigating Judges on Contempt Charge 9/6/13
DALLAS - The Dallas County district attorney who recently beat a contempt charge is investigating whether the charge was triggered by conversations between three judges.
The Dallas Morning News obtained emails indicating one of Craig Watkins' prosecutors has requested an investigative interview with state District Judge Lena Levario, who held Watkins in contempt in March. Levario cited Watkins for refusing to testify in a hearing related to a mortgage fraud case his office was prosecuting. Another judge acquitted Watkins last month.
The investigation appears to be aimed at conversations between two misdemeanor court judges who spoke to Levario about Watkins before the hearing where Watkins refused to testify.
Watkins' office declined to comment. Levario told attorneys in the mortgage fraud case that the DA's office asked to question her further, but she declined.
