3rd Commissioner of Border County Pleads Guilty 9/6/13
DEL RIO, Texas - The third Maverick County commissioner indicted in a
South Texas corruption probe has become the third to plead guilty to his role in
bribery and bid-rigging.
Commissioner Cesar Flores of Eagle Pass pleaded guilty in federal court in
Del Rio on Thursday to receiving bribes. He admitted to agreeing to sell his
influence to contractors awarded construction contracts in his precinct in 2010
and 2011. Prosecutors say those contracts were valued at more than $5,000.
Flores could be sentenced to as many as 10 years in federal prison, fined up
to $250,000 and ordered to pay restitution. No sentencing date has been set.
Previously, commissioners Eliaz Maldonado and Rodolfo "Rudy" Binet Heredia
have pleaded guilty to receiving bribes and await sentencing.
