Relative Says Castro Lacked is Victims' Strength 9/5/13
CLEVELAND - A victim's relative says Ariel Castro's suicide shows he was not a strong person like the three women he held captive in his home for a decade.
Tina Miller said Thursday that she was shocked to learn that the Cleveland man who kidnapped, raped and imprisoned her cousin Amanda Berry and two other women hanged himself in an Ohio prison Tuesday only a month into his life sentence.
Miller, of Lorain in northeast Ohio, said killing yourself is not strength, "surviving it is strength."
She said she hoped the death would allow Berry's daughter, fathered by Castro in captivity, would allow the girl to move on more quickly with her life.
Ohio's prison system is reviewing how Castro managed to hang himself with a bedsheet while in protective custody.
