Since the oil boom, the amount of people in small West Texas communities nearly triples in size during the day.
The amount of traffic in Big Lake has city and county officials worried for their people's safety.
That's why they're advocating for some big changes.
These strips may be small in size but, they mean a big change for Big Lake.
TXDOT is surveying the intersection of Highway 67 and Florida Street for a stop light.
Business owner Terry Warriner says it couldn't come soon enough.
"Traffic is just crazy right here...they fly through here fifty/sixty miles an hour," says Warriner.
He says the way he sees people drive in this intersection, it's only a matter of time before there is a wreck.
"We need to put a light in before we have a fatality."
Warriner isn't the only one in support of a new stop light, City and County officials want it too. So much so they're asking people to drive over the strips as much as they can.
"I don't even think they would look into putting a light here if it wasn't for our county judge and city officials," says Warriner.
The more traffic the intersection sees, the more likely TXDOT is to install a new light.
