KERMIT-Tuesday’s City Council meeting passed three new ordinances.
The Plastic Bags Ordinance was passed prohibiting any commercial businesses making over $1,000,000 dollars in annual sales to carry, or use plastic bags.
Smaller businesses will not be affected by the ordinance, but City Manager Pete Kampfer encourages everyone to use reusable bags.
The second ordinance passed was Synthetic Drugs Ordinance.
This ordinance prohibits the sale, purchase, possession, or use of any smoking products that are considered synthetic cannabinoids, or that are sold under the following names: Spice, Genie, Dascents, Zohai, Sage, K-2, and K.O “Knock-out” 2.
If caught violating the ordinance you could face a fine up to $2000.
The third ordinance passed was the Solid Waste Ordinance. Residents can expect their monthly solid waste charges to increase from $21.70 to $24.50.
Kampfer tells CBS 7 that the new ordinances will take effect beginning October 1, 2013
