ECISD Enrollment Up, Several Schools Already Closed to Enrollment 8/29/13
ODESSA - The enrollment in ECISD schools is up nearly 1,000 students from last year at this time.
ECISD Public Information Officer issued the following statement:
The day 2 enrollment numbers reached 29,489 compared to 28,551 on the second day last year. That is a difference of 938 students.
Also, San Jacinto Elementary is now closed to further enrollment and our Pre-kindergarten classes are closed to non-eligible students. Please note, state law defines students who are automatically eligible for Pre-k services (for instance economically disadvantaged, Bilingual, Special Education, and a few other defined circumstances.) ECISD accepts eligible and non-eligible students into Pre-k but due to the lack of space, all non-eligible students will be placed on a waiting list for Pre-k openings. Having said that, due to a lack of space, Carver Early Education Center is now closed to further enrollment. Lamar Early Education Center only has space open in Bilingual classrooms. Newly enrolling Pre-k students will be referred to the satellite classrooms at six elementary schools.
District administrators will continue to meet daily to review the numbers and work on solutions to what is nearly unprecedented school growth. We sincerely appreciate the work being done at our schools as we adapt this influx of new students and families.
