Crestview Baptist Church Helps Local MISD Schools 8/24/13
CBS 7 News
MIDLAND-The first day of school is just two days away and local schools have been working around the clock all week to make sure their campuses and teachers are ready.
Crestview Baptist Church split up into four groups this morning to re-beautify four local elementary schools, Jane Long, Scharbauer, Henderson and South.
CBS 7 spent the morning at Jane Long Elementary and within hours you could see what a difference the volunteers made.
The group was out there working hard as a team. Painting, sweeping, trimming and hammering, you name it, the group was doing it all.
Lead volunteer, Mike Myers, said their goal is to be engaged as a church.
"Be the church means step out…go do something that you normally wouldn't do...go to the extreme volunteer help out," said Myers.
Jane Longs Principal, Patrick Poe, said he and his staff are more than grateful for the help. He said the oil boom has created plenty of jobs, but there’s just not enough people to fill them.
"Personnel wise we don't have the staffing to be able to do this kind of work this time of the year. It means even more to us that we have these community outreaches that are willing to come out and show their support for the community," said Poe.
Myers says there are a lot of people whose talents and skills are needed through out the community, but many just don't know whom to turn to.
