Back To School Laws 8/24/13
August 24, 2013
Midland/Odessa - School starts Monday, which means law enforcement will be out on high patrol. Officers would like to remind drivers the laws that come with the starting of school.
Communications Officer Steve LeSueur says all lanes of traffic must come to a stop if a school bus has their sign out. However he says there is one instance when oncoming traffic does not have to stop.
“Oncoming traffic needs to stop as well pretty much everywhere in Odessa, unless there’s a median, a divided highway.”
It is also against the law to use a cell phone when the traffic signs are flashing. The law sates you can a phone if the vehicle is at a complete stop or if you are using a hands free device. If caught using your phone between these hours law enforcement will issue a ticket.
