A-Rod to Only Talk Baseball...Braves' Heyward Out With Broken Jaw 8/22/13
Alex Rodriguez says he's cutting off all non-baseball talk after a wild weekend of accusations and retaliations on and off the field. The three-time MVP says he wants to put the focus solely on baseball while the Yankees make a push for a spot in the playoffs.
Over the weekend, Rodriguez said he asked the players' union to file a grievance over his medical treatment. MLB responded by challenging him to make public the evidence that led to the 211-game suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs.

-- Atlanta Braves outfielder Jason Heyward sustained two jaw fractures when he was hit by a pitch from New York's Jonathon Niese (neese) in the sixth inning, and most likely is out until the playoffs. MLB.com reported Heyward would be put on the disabled list and is likely out four-to-six weeks.
- Free agent outfielder Roger Bernadina has signed with the Phillies. He hit .178 with two home runs and six RBIs in 85 games with the Washington Nationals this year. Last season, Bernadina hit .291 with a .372 on-base percentage in 129 games for the Nats. To make room on their roster the Phillies optioned Michael Martinez to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
- Long time Cardinals broadcaster and former player Mike Shannon is recovering after heart surgery. The club says the 74-year-old is resting comfortably after having his aorta valve replaced.
