UNDATED - There's a day-night doubleheader in New York today as the Yankees are playing host to the Blue Jays. New York starts the day in fourth place in the American League East, 8 games back of the front-running Red Sox. The Blue Jays, who started the season with high hopes of a post-season appearance, are mired in last place in the East, 15.5 games back of the Sox.
Tampa Bay was a winner last night in Baltimore and in doing so kept the pressure on the Red Sox. Boston won its game in San Francisco and the Rays start the night one game behind the BoSox while the Orioles are 5.5 back.
The top two teams in the tight AL West were both winners last night. The first-place Rangers beat the Astros while the Athletics edged Seattle. As play starts tonight, the Rangers have a half-game lead over Oakland.
The tightest division in the National League remains the Central as the Pirates lead the Cardinals by a game and the Reds by 2.5. This evening, Pittsburgh is at San Diego while the Cardinals are in Milwaukee and the Reds are home to Arizona. The Cards currently hold the longest winning streak in baseball at three straight.
