Texas Tech Opens Its Doors As Planned Parenthood Closes Theirs 8/19/13
CBS 7 News
MIDLAND-The shut down of Planned Parenthood in Midland has many women in the Permian Basin concerned.
Planned Parenthood wasn't just an abortion clinic...for many it was a source of health care.
Dr. Moss Hampton, Chairman of Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, tells us they offer many of the same health care services as Planned Parenthood did.
"I do know we have a broad spectrum of state and federal programs that are designed to help those who are underinsured or under served," said Dr. Hampton.
Some of these services include certain types of birth control, cancer screenings and STD testing.
Dr. Hampton says they see patients pretty quickly, but they are expecting a lot more patients now, due to the close of Planned Parenthood.
But he says the patients will certainly be seen...
"Our philosophy is putting patients first and trying to get them seen in the most efficient manner that we can."
To reach the Odessa location call 432-335-2222 and for Midland call 432-620-5800.
There are other options other than Texas Tech right here in the Permian Basin for those who are in need of health care services.
