Ector County School District Guidelines With AC 8/19/13
CBS 7 News
People have been complaining about teachers at Ector county school district not being able to use air conditioning.
CBS 7 called the school to find out exactly what was happening. Ector County School District Public Information Officer Mike Adkins says there are a set of guidelines for teachers to follow, and they have been in place since last summer.
He said during summer months, teachers can't just come in at any point and run the air conditioners on in their class rooms and work from there for the entire day. What teachers can do is contact the school principle and set up a time of a few hours to come in and work with the AC on but they must turn it off when they leave.
Adkins said that one example of why this is necessary and helpful is one evening last week an energy employee walked through an elementary school in the district and there were 40 air conditioners on but only 10/12 people there.
Adkins says since working with the Cenergistic Energy Company, the district has saved $715,000 from May 2012 to February 2013.
