Fort Hood Shooter: Attack Religiously Motivated 8/19/13
KILLEEN, Texas - The Army psychiatrist on trial for the 2009 massacre
at Fort Hood says he carried out the attack to defend his Muslim faith.
Maj. Nidal Hasan's comments come in a three-page letter to the Killeen Daily
The newspaper says the letter postmarked July 31 was received last week.
Contents were published Sunday.
Hasan says it's not acceptable for the U.S. to have a foreign policy that
tries to replace Shariah law with a more secular form of government.
He's made similar comments to other media.
Hasan argues scholars agree with him wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are
illegal. He names University of Illinois political science professor Francis
Boyle, whom he wanted as a witness to back his "defense of others" trial
His trial judge rejected the strategy.
