Bike MS Smoothie Fundraiser 8/18/13

There's nothing better than ice cold smoothies on a hot day. Add that to helping out a good cause, and you've got a great combination.
Banana, berry and mango smoothies were all on the menu today.
"We’re out here doing a little fundraising today," said Bike MS rider, Kent Crowell.
Bike MS members are making smoothies purely by biking and peddling their feet. There's no electricity, no buttons, no fuel except exercise. The smoothie fundraiser raises money for 2013 campaign for Multiple Sclerosis awareness and research. MS is an inflammatory disease of the brain and spinal cord.
“This gives them a chance to do something fun, help us with our Multiple Sclerosis Society, it serves people in 66 counties in West Texas," Crowell said.
"We’re really close to finding a cure and i think if all of us work, we’re going to get there," said Betty Shaffer, another Bike MS rider.
The Bike MS Cactus and Crude Ride takes place in July every year and this year, 275 riders came out.
“It’s not just a ride, it's a ride with a reason. And it's for a good cause," said fellow rider Danette Beals.
The ride is 150 miles in two days and they traveled from midland to big spring to post.
Bike is trying to raise $275,000 for the cause and is just short of that money. They're hoping that today, they will have met their goal of not only raising that money, but making people more aware of Mutiple Sclerosis.
