Below is a release from the City of Midland regarding an aggravated assault arrest:
One man was arrested after striking an individual with his car early Friday morning.
The Midland Police and Fire Departments responded to an accident involving a pedestrian at 12:27 a.m. Friday in the 1100 block of East Maple Avenue, where police found 20-year-old Lorenzo Leon lying in the street with severe injuries.
Police found out that the incident stemmed from a nearby disturbance involving 36-year-old Oscar Menterosa and 26-year-old Jose Alvarado. The two engaged in a verbal argument and Menterosa left in a black 2004 Toyota GT, first heading eastbound then turning around to head westbound on East Maple Avenue. Menterosa attempted to hit Alvarado and “clipped” Alvarado, causing minor injuries. Mentorsa then put the vehicle in reverse and ran over Leon. Officers believe his intentions were to run over Alvarado.
Leon was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Menterosa was taken into custody and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle.
