Out of the 138 citations written by the Midland Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, 7 drivers were without CDLs, 32 were overweight, and 38 had no commercial motor vehicle inspection or had an expired one.
Today, we did some inspections of our own to see if any truck drivers stopped at the Warfield truck stop in Odessa were in violation.
"There is a few bad apples out there and I understand it's about 5 percent of us truck drivers… and that's who the officers are looking for," says one truck driver.
According to Sgt. Santos Carrasco of the Texas DPS, commercial vehicles must have either an annual federal inspection or a Texas state inspection. If the truck stays only in Texas, they're only required to have the state inspection but, if the truck travels outside of the state they must have a federal inspection.
According to the Texas DPS, an invalid or expired inspection violation or an overweight violation is a class C misdemeanor which is fineable up to $500.
