Firecracker Fandango A Success 7/4/13
July 4, 2013
Odessa - Odessa’s Firecracker Fandango is thriving tonight after a near miss when even officials said due to the lack of volunteers Firecracker Fandango would not go on. But as CBS 7 saw out there this July Fourth that was not the case, hundreds came together to make the nights event a reality.
“A lot of people came up and said hey I can be there, I can volunteer. Hey I can take over for this part of it, so when you put all the pieces of the puzzle together it’s just a great event, and we are so fortunate to have it this year,” said Main Street Odessa President Norlene McBride.
In May “Main Street Odessa” announced that the event could not happen due to the lack of funds and lack of volunteers. When the word got out to the people of Odessa, they did what West Texas is known for and helped out.
“You know people ask if it was a stressful day, and I say no it wasn’t because everybody was here and did their part and just contributed in an awesome way,” said McBride.
This years event featured country singer Kyle Park and many area food and novelty vendors who say they couldn’t have picked a better place to set up.
