FBI Arrests Man After Interfering With Flight at Midland International 5/24/13
MIDLAND - One man was taken into custody by the Federal Bureau of Investigation after interfering with the flight crew of a Southwest Airlines flight Thursday evening.
Midland International Airport operations staff notified Midland police around 8:30 p.m. Thursday that a male on Southwest Airlines flight #863 was acting incoherently as the plane was making its descent into Midland. Officers confronted the male in the jet way when the plane landed and struggled to gain his cooperation. The male, later identified as 32-year-old Bryan Ray Allen, admitted he had taken methamphetamines before boarding the airplane. Allen was identified as living out-of-state and Midland did not appear to be his final destination.
A flight crew member told police that Allen had removed his seatbelt during the flight, walked to the cockpit door and proceeded to pull on it, trying to open it, until the airplane landed.
The FBI was notified and responded to the airport. After an initial interview, it was determined that Allen clearly interfered with the flight crew’s ability to safely operate the airplane during flight. Allen was then transported to the Midland County Detention Center and a Federal hold was placed on him. The suspect and investigation were turned over to the FBI personnel, who were expected to file the charge of interfering with flight crew members.
