West Texans Honor Fallen Officers 05/15/13

PERMIAN BASIN, TX - Law enforcement from across west Texas are paying their respects to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. This week is designated as National Police Memorial Week. A memorial service was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa to pay tribute to Odessa Police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The local officers killed in the line of duty who were honored today in Odessa are Sheriff’s Deputy Thad West, Corporal Gordon "GT" Toal, Officer Scott Smith, Corporal Arlie "Lee" Jones, Corporal Scott Gardner, Corporal Abel Marquez and Lubbock Officer Rodney Kendricks.
The Midland Police Department held a memorial of their own. City leaders and Midland officers gathered at the Midland County Courthouse to pay their respects and remember the heroism of the fallen officers at the Midland Police Department.
The officers being honored in Midland are Lieutenant Gordon Smith Junior, Officer Brian Scroggins and Officer John Perry Wyrick.
Both departments also remembered the 12 officers across Texas who lost their lives on the job within the past year.
