Odessa - One of the goals of the Odessa Police Department is to keep drivers safe, courteous and accident free.
In pursuit of this goal, the Department will begin to periodically designate safe zones throughout the city. These safe zones are areas in which traffic enforcement will be increased in an effort to gain traffic law compliance.
Expect to see officers of the Odessa Police Department working these areas singly or in groups in an effort to gain compliance through education and enforcement.
Officers working safe zones will be enforcing all traffic laws but will pay close attention to red light, stop sign, speeding and other moving violations.
The safe zones for the coming week are as follows: the intersection of JBS Parkway and Business 20 (old Highway 80) Overpass, the 100-600 blocks of West 42nd, and the 2700- 4200 blocks of JBS Parkway.
The Traffic Units will concentrate on all School Zones including cell phone use in school zones, Crosswalks, and School Buses while loading and unloading children.
