WEST ODESSA-1025 North Moss Ave. That's where ECISD Board of Trustees candidate Teri Ervin told election officials she lives. It might not look like it at first glance, but Ervin says there’s more than meets the eye.
"I'm here, this is it, it. From the outside you would think no one lives here and it looks like a barn,” said Teri Ervin, a Precinct 2 candidate for the ECISD Board of Trustees. “My cousins call is the barndominium. I understand questions but I do like it. It's my home, the only one I got.”
One look inside of her home is enough to dispel the rumors.
We reached out to ECISD -- they say they also heard the rumors, but have no official complaint about any candidate. The Ector County Elections Office checks out residency requirements. They say there are no official complaints in the upcoming election.
"When they go and file the school board calls us,” said Ector County Elections Administrator Mitzi Scheible. “They called us and we look them up to verify their address."
The elections office says it checks a candidate’s address in an electronic database and that if a complaint was filed, their office would notify ECISD.
For Ervin--the rumors that she might not live in the precinct she hopes to represent don't detract her from her goal.
"I wanna go in there and make a difference,” Ervin said. “I want to promote children and parents and let them know that this is their school."
