New Midland County Library Opens Its Doors With Star-Studded Event 4/13/13

MIDLAND-It took years of hard work, but the dedication of county and library officials is finally paying off--with the opening of the new Midland County Library off loop 250. Former first lady Laura Bush kicked off the opening ceremony.
"For readers of all ages, the centennial library in Midland will be a new place of daily wonder,” said Former First Lady Laura Bush at the library’s opening ceremony.
Hundreds of Midlanders took in the new library for themselves--with more than 50,000 books and an array of new technology, and some unique architecture, including artificial trees under which you can cozy into and read a book.
"It’s really clear that there’s been a lot of resources invested here,” said Midlander AJ Perea, who was at the library with his wife and children. “It’s a great layout and the kids love it, I know my wife and I both loved libraries as children and want to pass that on to our kids.”
Former General Tommy Franks was also on hand to open the library--which features a new exhibit on the career of the midland native.
We caught up with one Midlander who wasted no time in cracking open some books in the new genealogy wing.
"You know I grew up with a lot of history here in Midland, and I like that there’s a lot of resources here from other states,” said Emma Ruth Gault-Stock, who was already immersed in the library’s genealogy section after the opening today.
So what does this history buff think of the new library?
"It puts you in a really good mood before you even start,” said Gault-Stock, who said she loves the new layout of the library.
The library opens a new exhibit on bob hope may 1st. Its closed for the day, but you can check out the library for yourself Monday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. It’s located off Loop 250 in Midland in the shame shopping center as Best Buy.
