(Kermit)- A West Texas school receives a generous grant to help fund its welding program.
Kermit ISD was awarded $25,000 dollars from Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation.
They were the only program in the state to receive the award.
The program's director says the grant will help the program far beyond the classroom.
Jim Burnett told CBS 7: “It’s going to extend out into the community for adult education and it’s going to allow us to do community service projects in our community.”
One of the students also told us: “It will help us replace all of the old equipment, and help make the program better.”
Jim Burnett says they plan to use the money to purchase new welding equipment.
They also hope to add a dual credit program.
