Wrongfully Convicted Texas Man Testifies at Trial 3/20/13
SAN ANGELO, Texas - A Texas man who spent nearly 25 years in prison
after he was wrongfully convicted of his wife's murder has testified in the
trial of a drifter prosecutors say was the real killer.
Michael Morton told jurors in San Angelo on Tuesday that he noticed a gun he
owned was missing the day his wife Christine was killed in 1986 in their Austin
A prosecutor told jurors during opening statements earlier in the day that
the gun was taken by Mark Alan Norwood after he beat and sexually assaulted the
Prosecutors say DNA evidence that exonerated Morton implicated Norwood.
Morton was the first witness in the trial, which was moved from Williamson
County near Austin to San Angelo because of publicity deemed prejudicial.
