AUSTIN, Texas - A state House leader says some University of Texas
System regents are waging "witch hunt after witch hunt after witch hunt" to
drive University of Texas President Bill Powers from office
State House Appropriations Committee Chairman Jim Pitts made the comment
during the first hearing of a special House-Senate panel on higher education
governance.
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and House Speaker Joe Straus formed the panel last
month after vigorously defending Powers.
The Austin American-Statesman (http://bit.ly/15Z45GK) reports the comment
came after Powers and some other campus officials were ordered not to delete
emails from their computers and other devices. The UT System Board of Regents
audit committee has been investigating the relationship between the UT School of
Law and the UT Law School Foundation.
Regents have a meeting Wednesday.
