Crime scene tape leads the way to a closed dirt road- A road that multiple agencies use to investigate the remains found last Saturday at Lake J.B. Thomas.
A DPS spokesperson says they’re treating the area like a crime scene until proven otherwise.
Although the autopsy is still processing, there is a growing speculation that this could be the remains of the missing Colorado City Teenager Hailey Dunn.
“It's very emotional especially in times like this,” said April Wehba.
Wehba and her mother are volunteer searchers who have been looking for Hailey since she went missing about two and a half years ago.
“We just can't give up,” said volunteer Terrye Newcomb.
“Its been very long, very stressful, and very emotional,” Wehba said.
A few months ago a forensic physic told the volunteers they would see rolling hills and a “no hunting sign”.
A coincidence they say adds to their concern. They say they've never searched this area before.
“We feel like failures in a way,” Wehba said. “We would've found her two years.”
While investigators with the FBI and Texas Rangers search the lake for any kind of clues leading to the identity of this person, The volunteer searchers say they’re not quite sure what they want the outcome to be.
“We’re sitting on pins and needles we’re kind of numb - is this Haley or is it not,” Newcomb said.
“I don’t know, I hope it's her for closure or getting her late to rest,” Wehba said, “But I hope it's not her because we really want to find her alive.”
A family friend with Hope for Hailey gave this statement behalf of Hailey’s mother, Billie Dunn and the family:
We are praying that it is not hailey and praying for whomever it maybe and and their loved ones the FBI and Texas Rangers have been in close Contact with us but at this time they are giving very little information. Our entire family is disparately trying to hope that Hailey will be found alive. We are so grateful for all the love hope and prayers for Hailey from everyone. Thank you and please never give up hope for Hailey.
