New Braunfels City Manager Fired, Emails Sought 3/13/13

Associated Press

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - The city manager of a New Braunfels has been
fired following his annual performance review.

The New Braunfels City Council next week plans to name an interim
replacement for Michael Morrison. Mayor Gale Pospisil (PAHS'-pis-uhl) said
Tuesday that council members lost confidence in Morrison, who was city manager
for seven years.

Councilman Richard Zapata last Friday filed a lawsuit to compel the city to
turn over emails he requested last July from Morrison. Zapata, who took office
in May 2007, seeks all emails sent to or from the city manager during his
council term. The lawsuit says Morrison cited personnel and other issues in
declining to comply.

Zapata voted with the 5-2 majority Monday to fire Morrison.

City Attorney Val Acevedo declined comment pending receipt of the lawsuit.
