Midland - A new exhibit at the Commemorative Air Force Museum brings back memories for those who served during the Vietnam War. The exhibit also brings perspective to young people who don't know much about that era in our history. The exhibit is called, Vietnam: The Helicopter War. This is a temporary exhibit produced by the CAF Air power Museum with the Vietnam Center and Archives at Texas Tech University. Artifacts, some from local veterans, and information on loan from the Vietnam Center and Archives are on display.
The exhibit features several rare items, including a helmet handpainted with images of snakes, which once belonged to an AH-1 Cobra pilot. Several Viet Cong and North Vietnamese Army weapons and uniforms are also on display. Nose art from a UH-1 Huey helicopter also can be seen.
Vietnam: The Helicopter War will be on display through the end of March 2013. For more information on the CAF Air Power Museum, visit www.airpowermuseum.org.
